The American Heart Association San Antonio held their 5K Heart Walk on Nov. 3 at Brackenridge Park. An estimated 6,000 people were in attendance. Saundra Schultz (bottom center) was this years recipient of the Lifestyle Change Award, sponsored by Northwestern Mutual in recognition of her efforts to lead her family to a healthier lifestyle through better nutrition and exercise. She also quit smoking over a year ago. A phenomenal accomplishment since smoking is a huge risk factor for heart disease and stroke. Team Hearts of Joy was formed last year by the Schultz and Queen family, in memory of their lost loved ones taken by heart disease or stroke and in honor of the survivors within their family who have been affected by the disease. It was an honor to walk with joyful hearts, being part of the fight against heart disease. Appreciation is expressed from Team Hearts of Joy to all who pledged on behalf of the team and we look forward to preparing for the AHA San Antonio Heart Walk 2013.
