Although the last few months of tests have been below the acceptable level of arsenic, the state factors in all the tests for the past year, according to Gabe Thomas, public works director.
“One high level the last quarter caused the average to go over,” Thomas said.
The council also voted to partner with Pct. 2 County Commissioner Stanley Tuttle to pay half the cost of material known as Texas Road Glue to repair three-fours of a mile of road in Woodsboro with a material much less expensive than asphalt.
The town’s portion will be $9,350 and the county will pay the same. Tuttle’s crew will do the work.
“I know it’s a great concern that most of our roads are past repair and they have deteriorated,” Tuttle said. “The problem is money... we’re always looking at different ways to save money.”
Tuttle said he heard about Texas Road Glue at a conference a few months ago. With asphalt costing approximately $90,000 for one mile of road, the commissioner said the town can’t get much done with the available money.
The commissioner said the business that sells the material has been around for about 20 years.
“It’s a worthwhile investment as far as I’m concerned,” said Mayor George Hernandez. “We’ll see how well it will hold up.”
Tuttle said he would order the material and the crew will get started after the first of the year.
In other matters, the city voted to refer seven properties for a building inspection, as requested by the building standards committee. The properties are on Rogers, Danforth, Celia, Quintero, Arno and two on Pugh.
The council also voted to give each town employee a $600 across the board Christmas bonus.
In other matters, the council voted to:
• Change the January meeting from the first Tuesday of the month to the second Tuesday,
• Remove Kody Fahrenthold from the police bank account,
• Accept J. Torres’s resignation letter,
• Advertise for two more weeks for a chief of police,
• Pay $1,450 to purchase a 24 inch vent from Superior Tank, and
• Pay $3,985 to C2 Squared Specialties for a submersible pump.
