The six houses in front are filled with pop tabs destined for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Corpus Christi. The foods and gifts were collected in a week before the Christmas holiday. Collecting pop tabs is an on-going project.
Ronald McDonald House Charities have helped several Refugio County families over the years. A RMH bulletin reports the following:
• 26 pounds of tabs equals one family’s night stay at RMH special housing close to major children’s hospitals;
• 57 pounds of tabs equals one day of electricity to operate the housing units.
Collecting pop tabs (or pull tabs, as some say) is clean and convenient, ecologically smart, and they add up quickly.
“The 4H Rough Riders would appreciate the community’s support throughout the year by saving tabs and giving them to whatever organization is collecting them,” said Stephen Maldonado, A-T principal. “Let’s keep the Christmas spirit of giving alive all year.”
