BISD trustees, at their regular meeting Tuesday evening, unanimously accepted a $350,000 bid from Brazos de Santos Partners of San Antonio for the land, a rough triangle bordered by North St. Mary’s Street, North Adams Street and FM Road 351 on the city’s north side.
The firm hopes to open a Bill Miller BBQ on the site.
The land and building have been on sale since the district moved to its current facilities, roughly eight times as large, six years ago.
The district acquired the original site in August 1985. It transformed the 6,000-square-foot Grelling Building on the site into its administrative office.
Over the years, the board has rejected numerous offers to buy the building. BISD Superintendent Dr. Sue Thomas says that many potential buyers did not understand the bidding process.
The district opened the site for bids in December. The de Santos Partners were the only firm to submit a bid.
Ironically, the board announced the sale as the first item on the public portion of its meeting Tuesday, immediately outdating a bound report presented minutes later of photographs and plats of the properties the district owns.
According to the appraisal district, the 0.88 acres of land is valued at $306,660 and has $142,860 in improvements. This would bring its total worth to $449,520.
