GEORGE WEST — “We played better than we did Friday against Mathis,” said Skidmore-Tynan head coach Adam Wollam after watching his Bobcats dismantle the Longhorns 67-44 on Tuesday night.

The victory improves the S-T record to 26-3 overall and still perfect in district at 12-0.

“It was a good effort last night. We played a good game. Our defense was really good,” said Wollam.

“We clinched at least a share of first (in district).”

The Bobcat defense fed their offense as the ’Cats jumped out to a 14-8 lead at the end of the first period. The S-T boys were never threatened the rest of the way. It was a 33-18 contest at the half as the pressure defense of the Bobcats kept the Longhorns in check.

The Bobcats came out after the intermission hitting on all cylinders and put up 23 third-quarter points while holding the home team to eight tallies. It was all S-T heading into the final quarter at 56-26.

The Longhorns hit for 18 tallies in the final period to cut seven points off their deficit, but it was too big a hill to climb for the GW boys. The final was an easy 67-44 victory for the speedy Bobcats.

Eric Schumacher led the Bobcats with 27 points. Zeke Huerta hit for 17 in the win. John Hernandez followed with eight points, as did Erasmo Huerta. Brandon East contribute five points, and Ryan Scott added two points for the Bobcats.

The S-T boys traveled to play the Banquete Bulldogs on Friday night and will close out their regular season on Tuesday night when the Taft Greyhounds pay a visit to Skidmore.
