After four years, jazz band has come back to A.C. Jones High School. “We needed the right instrumentation and interest to get the jazz band started again. We have always had the interest; however, the students did not have the time for after-school practice. This year, it just worked out in our favor,” said band director Jamie Vela. “I plan to have them perform at our Christmas concert in December and then compete at the TAMUK Jazz Festival in March. The band organization is very diverse, having concert/marching band, mariachi and classical guitar,” he added. “Bringing in a jazz group will hopefully add to the excitement of what the band organization can offer to our students.” Pictured, members of the Mighty Trojan Band play through their first practice as a jazz band in more than four years.
