“It was a tough game for us. We had to do some things different than we normally do because of their size. We played hard and pulled out a win,” said S-T head coach Adam Wollam.
The Bobcats broke open a close game with a 14-3 run to start the second quarter. That run gave the home team a 28-15 advantage. Every rebound and every pass was contested by the ’Cats. The pressure defense made it difficult at times for the Longhorns to get the ball into the front court and into their offense. The shorter but scrappier S-T boys controlled the boards with positioning and desire.
The Bobcats led 34-19 at the half, and it was still a 15-point game at the end of three quarters. Both teams recorded 12 points in the quarter after the halftime break to make it 46-31 heading into the final quarter.
The Bobcats slowed the pace, using the clock to their advantage and kept the GW boys back on their heels on defense. The Bobcats added eight fourth quarter points to their side of the scoreboard. The Longhorns could not sustain a rally to pull any closer, and the ’Cats captured the victory.
Wing Eric Schumacher led the Bobcats with 17 points. Zeke Huerta added 12, and Jonathan Hernandez hit for 10 to join the other two in double figures. Brandon East followed with seven points. Erasmo Huerta contributed five, and Ryan Scott closed out the scoring with three.
The Bobcats hosted Banquete on Tuesday night and will visit the Taft Greyhounds on Friday night.
