The event will begin with opening ceremonies at 9 a.m. at the Runge VFW Hall with a flag raising ceremony, veterans roll call, laying of the wreath and community presentations.
After opening ceremonies, the air conditioned Runge VFW Hall will be open for shopping with vendors of all kinds, and for the first time, there will also be a Casa Blanca style Casino, sponsored by Bill Mixon of Futurity First of San Antonio. Just outside, a clay shoot competition will also begin.
There will be special activities both inside and out throughout the day including musical entertainment, face painting, clowns and more. Car show enthusiasts will enjoy the vehicles that will be gathering, as well as a horseshoe tournament and chicken dinner plate available for $8.
The parade will start at 6 p.m. and will go from downtown to the VFW grounds to gather for the fireworks.
“We are excited about this year’s activity and expect the fireworks this year to be spectacular!” said Brenda Hansler. “Please come and enjoy our family friendly Independence Day!”
Chamber officials are asking the public to help “Light Up the Sky for the 4th of July,” by sending pictures and stories about family members and friends that anyone would wish to honor and recognize, along with $5to help organizers light up the sky with fireworks.
Items submitted will be placed on a “Wall of Honor” on display at the Runge VFW Hall.
