REFUGIO – Charles Ezra Cook, 69, of Refugio, died Friday, March 28, 2014.

Mr. Cook was born Jan. 24, 1945, in the U.S. Naval Hospital in San Diego, Calif., to Cliffa Gene Lange Cook and Ezra Glen Cook.

He married Zehra Lale Kuzu on July 12, 1972, in Istanbul, Turkey. They met in Munich, Germany while he was stationed there in the Army.

Prior to that, he had served one year in Vietnam after earning a master’s degree in physics.

After returning to the States, he got his first teaching job in Lampasas. Two years later, he and Lale moved to Refugio where he taught mathematics and computer science for the next 40 years.

He was a active member of First Baptist Church. He taught the older men’s Sunday School class, was a member of the Baptist Men’s Group, and taught “Celebrate Recovery.”

He had a variety of hobbies and interests including beekeeping, piloting airplanes, electronics, Egyptology and travel.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ezra Glen Cook; and brother-in-law, Don Henderson.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Lale Cook; daughter, Neslie Jill Cook of Austin; mother, Cliffa Gene Cook of Pontotoc; two sisters, Candace Henderson and Kristy (Joe) Harris, both of Cherokee; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 30, at Moore Funeral Home Chapel.

A funeral service was conducted at the First Baptist Church in Refugio at 1 p.m. Monday, March 31.

Following the service, a celebration of his life was held at 2:30 p.m. at the Refugio High School Auditorium.

Burial and graveside services were conducted at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, at Cold Creek Cemetery in Llano County, located near the family ranch.

Pallbearers were Randall Ross, Richard Ross, Norman Ross, Judd Henderson, Billy Clay Myers and Todd Deaver. Honorary pallbearers were Curtis Harris and Joe Harris.
