Like Paul, we can glorify the Lord by speaking the gospel; but only Christ can save a soul. The Holy Spirit opens a heart, convicts it of sin, and reveals Jesus Christ as the sacrifice for sin. The key to salvation is not “believing” the Word or the Spirit, but “receiving” His Word and His Spirit.
Receiving Christ’s Spirit means far more than signs and wonders; it means a life transformed by His indwelling, as He reveals to us our personal redemption. Once saved, our life becomes filled with a whole new mandate: to worship the Lord, listen to what He has to say, and live out of the power, strength, and fulfillment He promises.
The baptism of the Holy Spirit is the incarnation of Jesus coming to live within us, working and bringing us to maturity. The movement of the Spirit within our life transforms our thinking, molding the child of God into Christ’s image.
When we belong to Christ, we are His witnesses wherever we go. But we do not “win souls”; He does. After people are saved, we can teach them about living the life of Christ by grace. If we allow Jesus Christ to be Lord of our life, He allows us to demonstrate His love. His love is so great, it overcomes our inabilities. Through His love, we can teach and make disciples of those He has saved.
