Christine Winkler, 87, died Jan. 19, 2013 at her residence in Cestohowa.

Mrs. Winkler was born in Wilson County Mar. 6, 1925 to Vincent Biela and Mary Broll Biela. She and Fred D. Winkler were married Nov. 25, 1948 in Cestohowa. She was a housewife and also helped her husband with the farming and ranching on their farm. Christine was an active member of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Cestohowa and a member of the Altar Society.

Survivors include her daughters, Elsie Sturm of Floresville and Shirley Starnes of San Antonio; brother Fabian Biela of Karnes City; sister Irene Kruize of Minneapolis, Minn.; grandchildren, Dee Dee Hurst, Amy Luna, Melissa Pruski, Paige Scheffler, and Aaron Ott; and 4 great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her parents; husband Fred; daughter Linda Ott; brothers Leonard, Chester, Archie, and Edmund Biela; and sisters Sylvia Pollock, Mary Moczygemba, and Barbara Winkler.

A rosary was recited at 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 24 and a funeral Mass was celebrated at 11:30 a.m., Friday, Jan. 25 at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Cestohowa.

Interment followed in the Cestohowa Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were Patrick Hurst, Jeff Luna, Jeremy Pruski, Brandon Scheffler, and Aaron Ott. Funeral services were entrusted to Rhodes Funeral Home Inc. of Karnes City where the on-line guestbook may be signed at rhodesfuneralhomeinc.com.
