Christmas in Goliad to feature ice rink

The 29th Annual Christmas in Goliad will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, beginning with the nighttime lighted parade at 7 p.m.

There is still room for floats in the parade.

The Living Nativity will open the parade. There is no charge to enter and cars, trucks, horses, floats, bikes, walkers, dogs are all welcome. All entries must have lights and each entry must fill out a form at the Market House Museum so that each entry can be announced as they go around the square.

Shops and restaurants will be open for business and all buildings will be displaying their Christmas decorations. Entertainment will be provided before and after the parade.

This year will include an ice- skating rink hosted by Goliad Main Street. Skates will be available for rent. The rink will be open Thursday night, Friday and Saturday. The rink will be closed during the parade.

The Grand Marshall is Harry Heil. The Goliad Historical Commission is helping with the fundraiser for Trey Psenick, the agriculture teacher who was killed in a car crash this past June. Psenick and his students built the longhorn corral each year and also restored a tractor that will be used to pullHeil in the parade.

The tractor will be on display on the site of Santa and the Longhorn corral. Tickets will be sold for the drawing to be announced at Christmas in Goliad.

On Saturday, Dec. 1, at 9 a.m., the square will be busy with vendors opening booths featuring their arts and crafts. All arts and crafts must be high quality and be handmade. Food and drink booths will be open throughout the day.

Local merchants will have special items for sale and the town will be decorated for the Christmas season. Miss Ruby’s Corral will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature various authors with their books for sale. The authors corral will feature cookbooks, local history books, genealogy books and others.

Santa will arrive at noon riding a Texas Longhorn and will be available to have pictures taken with the children.

The Market House Museum will be open for visitors all day. This year will be a display of “Ole Time Music Musical Instruments.” The museum will be open all day and is free of charge.

The “Best Dressed Dog Contest” hosted by Goliad Pet Adoption will be held at 3 p.m.. Call Goliad Pet Adoption for more details.

At dusk on Saturday, Zaragoza and The Presidio will host The Los Posadas (the birth of baby Jesus in the Mexican culture) and will be performed at Presidio de LaBahia.

The Beeville Community Chorus, hosted by The Mission Espiritu Santos, will perform at The Goliad State Park at 8 p.m.
