The camp, which will feature martial arts instructors from across the Coastal Bend, is open to everyone 3-years-old and up.
The camp is designed to introduce martial arts training that is available throughout the area. The camp’s focus will be on self-defense and confidence.
“For the younger attendees, we will be touching on the problem of bullying in our schools and strengthening our children mentally to be able to do the right thing,” said camp director and head instructor Billy Swinney.
“Also we will have parents participating in the camp and giving them the confidence and knowledge to work with their kids to face this mounting problem,” he said.
Campers also will be training on performing in front of crowds as they will be participating in the Texas Four Seasons Karate Championships held in Victoria on July 26.
Attendees will be learning from several instructors from Victoria, Corpus Christi and Refugio to see the different styles of martial arts that are out there.
“Each instructor has their own style and art to teach, but we will all be featuring a little discipline, focus, courtesy and sportsmanship,” Swinney said. “Things that are vital to making it in a tough world.”
Camp attendees will have a full day, as there will be eight hours of training each day and a competition to attend on Saturday.
Each attendee will receive a uniform, a Coastal Bend Karate Kamp T-shirt, a sports water bottle and other items.
“The most important thing is that attendees will be gaining new knowledge and making new friendships that will last a lifetime,” Swinney said.
