The officers and chairmen of the Clara Driscoll Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas were treated to a luncheon hosted by the chapter’s president, Theresa Darwin Baucum, on Saturday, Aug. 1, at the Baucum guest home near Robstown.
Sandra (James E., Sr.) Mikulencak, retiring president, also attended.
The club meets monthly, except during the summer and holds its meetings at the Clara Driscoll Children’s Hospital in Corpus Christi.
The members discussed plans for the new season that begins in September and the new officers learned their duties.
“Everyone in attendance greatly enjoyed the delicious lunch and educational meeting,” said Margaret McGuill, local member. “It was most helpful in clarifying the Daughter’s purposes and jobs.”
The Daughters are women who had ancestors living and serving Texas during the days it was a Republic. On Feb. 19, 1846, the Republic of Texas flag was lowered and in its place was raised the flag of the United States. That day Texas became a state in the Union of the United States of America.
The DRT officers and chairman who attended include Theresa Baucum, of Robstown, president; Chobie Stringham of Portland, first vice president; Anita Eisenhauer of Corpus Christi, second vice president; Sue Ramsey of Corpus Christi, recording secretary; La Nell Wright of Refugio, corresponding secretary; Lois Welch of Corpus Christi, chaplain; Michele Hinton of Odem, historian; Joyce Berkebile of Corpus Christi, treasurer; Vicki Welch, of Corpus Christi, custodian; Carolyn Baker of Corpus Christi, parliamentarian; Sylvia Budd, of Corpus Christi, hostess chairman; Jo Zell Horne of Corpus Christi, publicity chairman; Diana Broyes of Corpus Christi, third vice president; Ellen Royce of Corpus Christi, DRT registrar; and Becky Rooke of Corpus Christi/Refugio, CRT registrar.
The luncheon table was decorated with red, white and blue appointments reflective of the colors of the Texas flag which was also displayed.
