The Eagles picked up an early loss as the Odem Owls dealt them a first round loss on Thursday afternoon. The Pettus boys rebounded later in the day and beat the Beeville Trojan junior varsity squad.
On Saturday morning, the Eagles captured their second win of the tourney by soundly defeating the Nordheim Pirates to advance to the tournament’s third place tilt late on Saturday evening.
The taller and deeper George West Longhorns captured the third place trophy, and the Pettus boys finished their own tournament with a 2-2 record.
“Our young men continue to work hard and gain a better understanding of our offense and defense,” said head coach Tony Ferguson.
Pettus players who earned all-tournament recognition were Clay Brown and Eric Montez.
The Odem Owls and the Flour Bluff JV squad were to meet in the championship game, but both teams decided to cancel the game because of district play beginning on Tuesday for both squads.
