GOLIAD – Debra Barker has only one regret concerning the Goliad County American Cancer Society Relay For Life.

“I wish it was longer,” said Barker, vice chairperson of the event and a skin cancer survivor herself.

The six-hour event will be held Saturday at the Goliad County Courthouse Square beginning at 6 p.m.

The ceremony will include honorees Deborah Gamblin, Andy and Romana Garcia, Dwight Michael, Nancy Rader and Amanda Sparks. Memorials will be held for Stella Davis, Eloisa Garcia, James L. Johnson Sr. and Dennis Pesek.

The ceremony will begin with the invocation by Rev. Sharon Stewart, Presentation of Colors by Cub Scout Pack #64 and the National Anthem by Morafley, which includes band members Jeff and Rick Moon returning to their hometown of Goliad.

The honorees and families of the memorials will be given time to speak. A survivor lap around the courthouse will follow. A wagon provided by Billy and Karley Howe will be available to take those who require assistance.

The survivor/caregiver lap will follow and be followed by the team lap.

Local survivors may have received an invitation to the survivor dinner, which is sponsored by and held at the Empresario Restaurant at 7 p.m. Guests are asked to RSVP to JoAnn Ybarbo if they plan on attending the dinner. Those who did not receive an invitation and are cancer survivors may register for themselves and a caregiver at the event. There will be a table set up for survivor registration and T-shirt pickup near the band starting at 5 p.m.

The luminary ceremony will be held at dusk. There will be a table set up before the event for those wanting to donate a luminary to be lit for a loved one.

Music will be provided throughout the night by County Line, Hall Pass and Morafley. Zumba fun is from 9:30 to 10:15 p.m. Dr. Daniel Garza’s staff will be holding a bean bag toss, washer toss, goldfish game, go fish and a duck pond all night for a small donation.
