He was born Nov. 10, 1940 in Taylor, Arkansas to Ira Martin and Mattie Jordan Martin. Elbert worked for over 20 years for the City of Karnes City retiring as Code Compliance Officer. He was a former member and officer for the Karnes City Town and Country Days organization, and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Karnes City.
Survivors include his wife Lillian Martin of Karnes City; daughters, Debra (Ronnie) Buehring of Karnes City, and Carolyn (Kenneth Henry) Chesser of Round Rock; son, Randy (Pam) Martin of Louisiana; sister, Liz McCray of San Antonio; grandchildren Travis (Kristen) Buehring, Jordan Buehring, and Matthew Sullins; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Margie Hamm; and brothers, Wayne and Samuel Martin.
Visitation began at 5 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel in Karnes City. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Karnes City. Interment followed in the Karnes City Cemetery. Pastor David Collins III officiated.
Pallbearers were Travis Buehring, Jordan Buehring, Matthew Sullins, Lorenzo Saenz, Shelby Buehring, and Gordon Walleck; and honorary pallbearers were Lillian Lyssy, Alvin Pawelek, Frankie Opiela, Randy Witte, and Marvin Witte.
