FFA memebers recognized at annual banquet

REFUGIO — Members of the Refugio High School FFA were recognized for their achievements during the annual Refugio FFA banquet on Monday April 23 at the First United Methodist Church fellowship hall.

The honorary chapter award was presented to Gary Bellows. HC Neel was presented the Star Greenhand Award; and Dalton Brown received the Star Chapter Award. Thea Top Hand award went to Anthony Mcguill.

Students who received proficiency awards for animals include for swine were Dalton Brown, Derek Ressmann, HC Neel and Anthony McGuill, swine; Courtney Myers and Abigal Shay, lambs; Travis Anzaldua, market goats; Donovan and Dalton Brown, rabbits.

Derek Ressmann competed in the San Antonio Livestock Show with his land-raised barrow.

Other awards went to the Greenhand chapter conducting team that competed at the Gateway district LDE’s in Kingsville including HC Neel, Nestor Palomino, Derek Ressman, Brent Wendel, Jared Skrobarcek Anthony McGuill and Ronny Lucich.

The Quiz team consisted of HC Neel, Courtney Myers, Dalton Brown, and Darrin Deleon.

Nestor Palomino competed in the Greenhand Creed speaking in Kingsville. Dalton Brown and Diego Diaz competed in the area 10 range contest in Sinton.

FFA members also competed at the San Antonio Livestock Show. Courtney Myers, Dalton Brown and Travis Anzaldua. competed in horse judging; and HC Neel, Anthony Mcguill, Derek Ressmann, Dalton Brown competed in meat judging.

Andrew Garcia, Anthony Mcguill, Brett Wernli, Jonathan Cantu and Jared Skrobarcek competed at the Gateway district CDE’s at Jourdanton. Darrin Deleon also competed in poultry judging in Jourdanton.

HC Neel, Derek Ressman, Dalton Brown, and Steven Cantu competed in livestock judging at the area contest in Robstown.

During the District convention in Sinton, HC Neel was elected district secretary and Ally Coscetti won the talent contest.

The banquet hall was decorated by the FFA member’s mothers who were; Teri Ressman, Patty Shay and Amy Neel.
