According to information from DPS, Gillett resident Paul Radicke, 72, was driving an ATV in the bar ditch alongside State Highway 80 at about 12:55 p.m. about three miles north of Gillett when he turned onto the highway to make a U-turn near the intersection of the highway and County Road 285.
A man named Lawrie Yaeger, 71, of Ledbetter, was driving a black Ford F-150 in the northbound lane when he saw the ATV cross from the bar ditch onto the pavement and steered hard to the left to avoid hitting the ATV but was unable to avoid the collision and struck the rear of the ATV.
Radicke was airlifted to University Hospital for treatment to injuries sustained in the crash. A spokesman for University Hospital said his condition was listed as serious, but stable on Friday, Feb. 8.
