Members of the Karnes County 4-H Horse Project Group have brought home numerous honors recently from various competitions around the area.
In January, they participated in the Matagorda County Fair Association Horse Judging contest in Bay City. In February, they competed in Horse Judging, Horse Quiz Bowl, and Horse Skillathon at the San Antonio Livestock Exposition ( S.A.L.E.).
Horse Judging is both a team and individual contest, requiring participants to place both halter and performance classes and to give oral reasons explaining their placing.
Horse Quiz Bowl is a team event, testing a broad range of knowledge about horses, set in a timed game-show format, with each contestant buzzing in to answer questions.
Horse Skillathon is a combination event for individuals, composed of written and station ID tests on horse knowledge and also a "hand-on" portion testing a contestant's ability to handle a horse and complete a basic task.
