The 2012 “Six Shooter Junction Golf Shoot-Out” sponsored by the Kenedy Chamber of Commerce Tourism and Visitors Center was held this past Saturday, Oct. 20 at the Karnes County Country Club. The tournament is an annual fundraiser for the Kenedy Chamber scholarship awards which are given each year to Kenedy High School students. This year’s tournament hosted 48 golfers, filling twelve teams to compete in a shotgun format.

Congratulations to our winning teams: 1st place winners were Gino Garcia, Jimmy Gauna, Mike Porter, Lacho Canales; 2nd place winners were Chris Abila, Bryan Minton, Ryan Arnold and Darrell Burrell; 3rd place winners were Victor Delgado, Jude Beaver, Loy Gonzales, Regelio Campos.

We can’t say thank you enough to the sponsors who helped put on the event. Our sponsors came in many forms, from products for the goody bags, gifts for our raffle, silent auction items, and cash from our Precious Metals and Diamond Sponsors. This year’s event more than doubled the amount of scholarships we have been able to provide our students in the past. The entire Board of Directors of the Kenedy Chamber would like to thank everyone for their support. In addition to the sponsors and Mark Medina of the Karnes County Country Club, a special thanks goes to Dennis Mika and Kent Hackney for assisting with our success.

Toy’s for Tots of Karnes County received a $650 check from the Kenedy Chamber of Commerce Tourism and Visitors Center this Saturday, Oct. 20 after a cook-off event to benefit them was held along with the “Six Shooter Junction Shoot-Out”. Cooks not only raised money for Toys for Tots, but their food was prepared to feed our hungry golfers at the end of the day. The golfers judged the food and announced the 1st place winner as Bottom Line Lease Service, 2nd place winner was the Wood Group Duval Cooks. These two teams raised the $650 and feed over 60 people who were involved in the weekends events.

Thursday, Oct. 25 the Kenedy Chamber will host the 2nd Microsoft Community Connections program at our temporary chamber office at 216 W. Main street (aka the little red school house) at 6:30 p.m. Stephen Orta with WRS Technology Services of San Antonio will be presenting a program designed to assist communities and chamber members in keeping up and maybe just a little ahead of today’s technology. Microsoft has generously provided a program for raffle to all who attend. Hope to see you there.

Miss Bluebonnet Days, Brandi Ornelas, and her court, 1st Runner Up, Trina Almanza and 2nd Runner up Candice Ornelas, along with Little Belle, Nayeli Rangel, spent Saturday at the Yorktown Western Days encouraging people to join us at our next Bluebonnet Days here in Kenedy. They are always so beautiful and friendly as they ride the Bluebonnet Float. The float was pulled by Bob Hansler and the vehicle was provided by Larry Belcher. Great job!
