Skipper Koetter announces this week he will seek another term as district judge and submitted the following statement:

Ready to begin campaigning for another term, Republican District Judge Skipper Koetter formally announced today that he will seek re-election to his current position.

A native Texan, Koetter has served as District Judge of the 267th Judicial District, which covers Calhoun, DeWitt, Goliad, Jackson, Refugio, and Victoria Counties, since 2002.

Koetter holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Texas A&M University, and earned his Law Degree from the South Texas College of Law. Before receiving his Law Degree, he worked for ten years as a small businessman in the construction industry. Koetter also served in the Texas Air National Guard for eight years, and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant.

He practiced law in Victoria for over seventeen years, and as a private attorney tried nearly 100 jury trials involving a wide variety of cases. Koetter appeared in court representing both plaintiffs and defendants, and also mediated over 800 legal disputes. During his tenure as District Judge, numerous serious criminal cases have been tried before him, and he has also heard large numbers of complex civil and family law matters.

“For me, being a judge is not about partisan politics or playing games; it’s about real people and real lives. Decisions made in the courtroom can have lasting effects on people in our community, and I pledge to continue being a fair, law-and-order judge who ensures that everyone in the courtroom is treated equally,” Koetter commented.

Koetter, 64, has been married to the former Dotty Beal for over 40 years, and they have two children and five grandchildren. As an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Victoria, he serves as Vice President of the Congregation in addition to teaching an adult Bible class.

“It has been an honor and a pleasure to serve the people of our area as judge since 2002, and while we have made progress, there is still work to be done in the courtroom. I am committed to continue working hard as your District Judge, and I truly believe that it is your courthouse, your courtroom, and our community,” Koetter concluded.
