GEORGE WEST — A good first quarter did not translate into a good second period as the Skidmore-Tynan Lady Cats came out flat in the second eight minutes to fall behind and eventually lose to the Lady ’Horns, 66-50, on Tuesday evening.

“To finish the season out, the girls competed very well against George West. We had trouble dealing with them being so tall, but I was pleased that the Lady Cats played the best they could,” said head coach Joseph Grimes III.

The S-T girls were a point behind after one period at 12-11. The cold spell then hit, and the Lady Cats managed just six second-period points while the GW girls raced off to add 18 tallies to their side of the scoreboard.

It was a 30-17 contest at the halftime break. The Lady ’Horns remained hot in the third period and poured in 21 points to put the game way out of reach. The Lady Cats put up 13 points but trailed 51-30 going into the final quarter. The S-T girls fired in 20 fourth quarter points, but it was way too big a hole to get out of, as the Lady ’Horns cruised to a 66-50 victory.

Mari Martinez hit for 18 points to lead the S-T scoring attack. Amber Hughlett followed with 14 tallies. Courtney Leonard hit for five tallies. Kayla DeLeon, Erica Navarez and Naomi Garza all added three points in the loss. Isabel Jimenez and Khelsey Corrigan both contributed two points for the Lady Cats.
