WOODSBORO – The Lady Eagle softball team completed its regular season on Wednesday with a 10-run rule and a five-inning shutout of non-district opponent Corpus Christi John Paul II.

The win sends the season record up to 16 wins and 4 losses.

After securing the district championship the Lady Eagles hosted the John Paul II Centurions on open district week.

The Lady Eagles started the game off by giving up one hit to the TAPPS power house.

Woodsboro started the bottom of the first inning hot with the bats.

Toni Martinez, Jamie Wilson and Kendall Wendland reached base on singles but were denied the crossing of the plate.

In the top half of the second inning, once again, Wilson allowed just one hit as the defense supported the ace pitcher.

In the bottom half of the second the Lady Eagles got in rhythm and scored two runs on three hits.

Anna Vega led off the inning with a single to left field.

Rachel Blaschke collected a single; Madalynn Nixon then punched her free walk ticket to load the bases.

Martinez stamped her RBI ticket twice with one swing of the bat, hitting a two RBI double to score Vega and Blaschke.

The Centurions went three up and three down in the third frame on two strikeouts and a fly ball to Martinez at first base.

The Lady Eagles exploded for five runs in the bottom of the third.

Wilson started the inning off with a double to left center.

Hannah Niemann then secured an RBI with a double of her own, scoring courtesy runner Analisa Arriaga from third base.

Vega reached base on a fielder’s choice.

Blaschke got her second hit of the day, as Nixon watched ball four to load the bases.

Taylor Perez hit a 2RBI single up the middle to score Vega and Blaschke.

Martinez followed with an RBI single to score Nixon from third base.

Kasye McCool reached on an error by the Centurion pitcher.

Wilson collected her first RBI on a single to left center scoring courtesy runner Hallie Martinez to make the score 7-0.

In the top half of the fourth inning the Centurions showed their first threat of scoring on a two-out rally.

The Centurions loaded the bases up on a single and two walks with two outs but were denied a run on Wilson’s sixth strikeout of the game.

The Lady Eagles scored two more runs in their bottom half of the fourth.

Wendland and Niemann then hit back-to-back singles.

Wendland scored from second on a single by Vega.

Niemann and Vega advanced a base on a single by Nixon.

Niemann later scored on an RBI single by catcher Perez to make the score 9-0.

Wilson struck out her seventh and eighth victims with her fastball, and Martinez threw a runner out at third base, as Vega made the strong tag.

In the bottom half of the fifth, McCool led off the inning with a single.

Wilson collected her fourth hit of the day with a double.

With runners on second and third, Wendland goy a base hit to score McCool, the winning run, from third.

Pitcher Wilson gave up just three hits, struck out eight batters and went 4 for 4 at the plate with 1RBI, 2 doubles, Perez 2 - 4, 1R, 3RBI, Martinez, 3 – 4, 3RBI’s, McCool 1 – 4, 1R, Wendland 3 – 4, 1R, RBI, Niemann 2-3, 1R, RBI, Anna Vega 2-3, 2R, RBI, Rachel Blaschke 2-3, 2R, Madalynn Nixon 1-1, 1R, 2BB.

Also contributing to the Lady Eagle victory was right fielder Taylor Nixon, Hallie Martinez, Analisa Arriaga, Shelby Sheffield, Kasten Cisneros, Karah Lakeman, and Adriana Vega.

The next game for the Lady Eagles will be in the area round of the playoffs against the winner of D’Hanis and Center Point. Time and Location TBA.
