The 69-37 victory assured the Pettus girls of a second place finish in district no matter the outcome of their final two contests.
Cierra Buentello led the Lady Eagle offense with 19 points in her reserve role. She entered the game in the second quarter and played well with four rebounds and two steals to go along with her hot hand in scoring. Randi Arrisola and Destiny Carrillo were also in double figures with 10 points apiece in the win. Carrillo also dished out five assists to her teammates.
“All in all, it was another full team effort with everyone scoring four points or more. We were aggressive on defense which got a few players in some foul trouble, but only one fouled out in the fourth quarter,” said Lady Eagles head coach Sunny DeCamp.
The Falls City Beaverettes top the district standings, but the Lady Eagles will hang on to second place and a spot in the playoffs even if they were to lose the last two games.
“Seeing the girls play the way they did last night, I wish they would come out every game fighting like they did. I’m very proud of the girls; they work hard and deserve the credit they have earned this year,” DeCamp said.
The Lady Eagles wrap up the season with Friday’s game at Yorktown and the season finale on Tuesday night when the Beaverettes travel to Pettus.
