BEEVILLE – The A.C. Jones High School varsity softball team exploded for two big innings to easily send the Calallen Ladycats home with a 13-1 loss on Friday night.

Lady Trojan varsity pitcher Theresa Amador had a rough night – but not necessarily in the circle.

On a double that scored a couple of runs, the throw-in got her in the upper arm. An inning or two later, she dove headfirst and stretched out to catch a foul pop just up the first base line from home plate. And, then to top off her evening of bumps and bruises, Amador was hit in the foot by a pitch the next time she came to the plate.

Bumps and bruises aside, Amador led the Lady Trojans to a 13-1 victory over the visitors on Friday night to gain the Beeville girls’ first district victory of the season.

Amador had plenty of help as her Lady Trojan teammates put on an offensive show for the fans against the Ladycats.

Calallen pushed across its lone run of the game in the first frame. It was still 1-0 going into the bottom of the second, but the Beeville girls struck for five runs to gain a lead on which they would build. An eight-run fourth put the game away and made it a 13-1 final in five innings.

Eddika Ortega was 3-4 on the night with five runs batted in for the Lady Trojans. Amanda Gonzales and Andrea Briseno each had two hits (two doubles) and two RBIs for their work at the plate. Rebecca De Los Santos went 1-3 with an RBI. Amador helped herself with one hit, a double and two runs batted in on the night.

Lynn Puente was 1 for 2 with two runs scored. Alyssa Bates went 1-3 with a run, and Taylor Castillo came up big with a perfect 2-2 evening with three runs scored. Mackenzie Delagarza scored twice as a pinch runner for Briseno.

“We played great tonight. Theresa was efficient with her pitches, and the defense was flawless behind her,” said head coach Jose Flores.

Amador recorded four strikeouts on the night while her defense played without an error behind her. Amador walked two Calallen batters over the five innings of work.

The Lady Trojans travel this week. Tuesday had them at Tuloso-Midway and then on Thursday evening, they will play at Gregory-Portland.
