CORPUS CHRISTI — A strong second half performance by the varsity basketball Lady Trojans led them to a 58-49 victory over the Miller Lady Bucs on Tuesday night.

“We started off the game in good shape. We didn’t hit many of our shots from the paint, but we executed,” said Lady Trojan head coach Katina Walker.

The game was close through the first two periods. The teams were all tied at 9-9 at the end of the first quarter. The home team took a three-point advantage into the locker rooms at halftime as the Miller girls were on top, 26-23.

“We were down by three at the half but came back fighting and put the game away at the end. We must do the little things and correct those things a lot quicker,” Walker said.

A few defensive adjustments during the break by the visitors did the trick. The Beeville defense tightened down on the Miller squad and held the hosts to just seven points in the third quarter while the Lady Trojans struck for 16 points. Beeville led 39-33.

The home team regained a little of their scoring aptitude in the fourth quarter, hitting 16 points, but the Lady Trojans extended their margin by drilling the nets for 19 points.

Victoria Elizalde led the Lady Trojans in scoring with 20 points. Elizalde also played well on defense with nine steals and hauled in seven rebounds. Theresa Amador followed with 12 points and six rebounds. Tori Muñoz was also in double figures with 10 points and added three steals and four rebounds to her stat sheet. Krystal Cuellar made eight points. Brennan Holder and Ciara Garcia each furnished four markers. Holder contributed mightily on the boards with seven rebounds.

The Lady Trojans played the Goliad Tigerettes on Friday night and will host the Aransas Pass Lady Panthers on Tuesday evening.
