The one big difference? The Bobcats have the opportunity to pick up the pieces and continue to improve their season.
The Bobcats scored twice rather quickly in the first quarter off the arm of quarterback Travis Quintanilla. The first, a 22-yard touchdown reception to Devon LaFrance and a point after by Adolfo Cordero. The second was a 45-yard strike to JB Brown with a 2-point conversion to follow to give the Cats a 15-0 lead.
The Vikings followed up with a score and a 2-point conversion of their own to make it 15-8. Running back Isaiah Perez, who ran the ball 19 times for 110 yards for the night, capped off the first period with a 4-yard touchdown scamper to make the score 22-8.
In the second quarter, the Vikings scored two touchdowns and held the Bobcats to a field goal – a 33-yard boot by Cordero to make the score 25-22 going into the half.
The third period began with the Bobcat defense forcing a fumble, and Tyler Castellano scooping up the loose ball and returning it 52 yards for a Refugio touchdown. Late in the period, Quintanilla targeted Austin Moya on a 17-yard touchdown pass to make the score 39-22.
The Vikings surged in the final quarter scoring three times. The final score came with only 19 seconds left in the game to push ahead of the Cats 45-39.
Quintanilla completed 23 of 33 passes for 347 yards on the night.
The Bobcats will regroup, having a week off this week, and bounce back for district play, which begins Friday, Sept. 27.
