Live Oak County’s transportation service recently resumed and is available for senior citizens (60 and older) and to those declared disabled but ambulatory.

The transportation coordinator, Joe Palczewski, said he works part-time for LOC as the driver and “to entertain himself” he drives the charter bus for Rockport tours. Palczewski said for a while there was no transportation service because the previous driver retired. “Besides Seniors, anybody that needs transportation to, say, get groceries; if they need help to get their medication or to go to the doctor and they are disabled but ambulatory qualifies. They just need something from their doctor that says they are disabled and identification to verify age. Even if they are temporarily disabled,” Palczewski said.

“The program was set up through BCAA [Bee Community Action Agency] in Beeville. I am going on five years working for BCAA. The BCAA covers different counties besides Bee. They do all sorts of services like getting electricity to those that need it and transportation is a part of it, too,” Palczewski continued.

“I am trying to set up certain days to go to Corpus Christi and certain days to go to San Antonio. The only thing is, I can’t take just one person back and forth. I have a woman that needs to go to Corpus 16 times a month for therapy and I can’t do that yet. We have to limit it to be able to take others, too,” said Palczewski.

To set up an appointment for transportation, call Palczewski at: 361-449-2733 ext.1026. If unable to reach him, you may leave a message at the Live Oak Senior Center at: 361-786-3820.
