Students representing the George West Spanish and Art Clubs, as well as selected members of the Band and One Act Play accompanied by their Sponsor Margarita R. Cantú attended the Palmview High School Mariachi & Folklorico Spring Concert in La Joya on Saturday, Feb. 23. Students were invited to dance on stage at the end as well as take pictures with the performers.

“The Ballet Folklorico, and Mariachi performances were even more amazing than anticipated,” said Cantú. The students were especially impressed to know that Mariachi “Los Lobos” and Grupo Folklorico “Ozomatli” had been chosen to perform for President Barack Obama in the 57th Inaugural Parade in January. The Palmview Lobos were chosen from nearly 2,800 marching bands, musical acts and drill teams that applied to be part of the historical event. They were also one of a few to be highlighted on CNN that day.
