Travis Perez, 19, of George West, refused medical treatment and was apparently all right.
Troopers said Perez fell asleep at the wheel of his vehicle, and it veered from the westbound lanes into the eastbound lanes, exited the highway, struck a culvert, side-swiped a utility pole and then hit another pole head on.
The speed limit on State Highway 72 is 70 mph.
In addition to the DPS, Acadian Ambulance Service and the Live Oak County Sheriff’s Department were at the scene.
