No reprieve?
Image 1 / 15
Proudly proclaiming its 1874 date in square-headed nails, the old Beeville jail has seen better times. Originally, its home was on the courthouse square, then it moved to U.S. 59 and Jackson and, finally, with the help of retired Bee County Sheriff Bob Horn (standing in the doorway), is now spending its remaining days — and they are few — within the shadow of the sheriff’s office. The floor has collapsed, as have the front steps. Inside, the only prisoners are old file cabinets, concrete blocks and window bars that, could they talk, are faithful to their secrets.
