PORT LAVACA — The visiting Trojans came up a little short in the fourth quarter as the Calhoun Sandcrabs got back on track to post a 64-51 varsity basketball victory.

The Sandcrabs led by just two points, 13-11, at the end of one period and took a 26-21 advantage into the locker room at the halftime break.

The Trojans were hot in the third period and closed the gap with some good defense and better shooting. The game was down to a two-point spread heading into the final eight minutes with the hosts holding the slim lead.

The Trojans led by four late in the third, but then things went cold for the Beeville shooters.

“A couple of turnovers led to three-point plays and then they hit a couple of threes to pull away from us. The kids played hard, and I was real proud of their effort,” said Trojan head coach Mike Luce.

The Sandcrabs out-scored the Beeville boys 20-8 in the final period to get the win, 64-51, in a game that was much closer than the final score might indicate.

Brent Reyna led the Beeville scoring with 13 points. Cameron Kremers followed with 12 tallies, and Lucas Glew hit for 10 in the loss.

The Trojans were at home on Tuesday night, hosting the Calallen Wildcats in another district battle. On Friday, the Trojans will hit the road for Corpus Christi to meet the Tuloso-Midway Warriors.
