PETTUS – The Eagle varsity baseball team captured a 9-6 win over the Three Rivers Bulldogs on Tuesday night to open district play.

Reliever Lane Kruger pitched four hitless innings to seal the deal as the Eagles began with a 1-0 district record and stand 4-4 on the year.

The Pettus boys finished third in the recent Pettus tournament held last weekend. The Luling Eagles captured the tourney title with the Kenedy Lions claiming second place. Pettus went 2-2 in the tourney action.

Luling defeated the Lions 4-0 as pitcher Ryan Larison threw the shutout and struck out 16 Kenedy batters in the championship game victory.

The Eagles played Port Aransas on the road on Friday night and will meet the Nixon-Smiley Mustangs on Saturday at 7 p.m. in Nixon. The Falls City Beavers will visit Pettus on Tuesday evening.
