REFUGIO — The annual Joe Barber Memorial Relay for Life kicks off at 7 p.m., Saturday Nov. 10 at the county fairgrounds.

“We’re having a party, and you’re invited,” said Michelle Myers, one of the relay organizers. “This year’s even is in full swing with 19 teams that will take to the track Saturday night.”

The 2012 honorees include Olivia Yanez along with Tom and Kathy White. Memorials are Ginger Springer, Cotton Lamprecht, Janie Saenz and Gloria Camacho.

“There is still plenty of room for luminaria,” Myers said. “These are a beautiful tribute to honor someone whom we have lost to cancer, celebrate those we still have with us, and show our support for all of those who are fighting back.”

This year, organizers are mixing things up with live entertainment by County Line and a mask decorating contest. But the old favorites will return including a silent auction, crafts, drawings and a lot more.

“Relay for Life is a time for us to come together and remember those we have lost, celebrate those we still have and fight back with our friends and family by walking for them on this special night,” Myers said.

For more information call Myers at 361 237-8333 or Monica Flores at 361 543-7999.
