“We wrapped up the district championship at Banquete. We showed a lot coming back in a tough atmosphere. It was a good test for us,” said head coach Adam Wollam.
It was a back-and- forth contest through the first three quarters. The teams were tied at 16-16 at the end of the first period, and the Bobcats owned a 36-34 advantage at the half.
The Bulldogs and the Bobcats were tied late in the third at 47-47, but a quick six-point burst by Banquete to close out the period had the ’Cats on the wrong side of a 53-47 scoreboard.
S-T went back to a pressure defense late in the period and forced the ’Dogs into a couple of costly turnovers. The Bobcats capitalized and regained the lead. East came through in the clutch, hitting three of four from the charity stripe in the final 14 seconds of the game to help preserve the victory. The Bobcats outscored the home team 18-9 in the final period to capture the win.
Zeke Huerta had a team-high 23 points for the Bobcats. East followed with 19 markers. Eric Schumacher added 11 and Erasmo Huerta contributed 10 to put four Bobcats in double figures. Ryan Scott contributed two to the S-T total.
The victory improves the Cats’ district record to 13-0 through Friday night’s game. The are 27-3 on the season and ranked 22nd in the state’s 2A rankings.
The Bobcats concluded their regular season with their final district game on Tuesday when the Taft Greyhounds came to Skidmore.
