GOLIAD COUNTY – The Goliad County Sheriff's Office apprehended 17 suspected illegal immigrants during searches Tuesday night and Wednesday after the suspects fled two vehicles Tuesday night.

According to the GCSO, DPS troopers tried to stop two pickup trucks around 6 p.m. Tuesday after one was suspected of committing a traffic violation.

Both pickups tried to evade the DPS troopers. One came to a stop at Ward Street and San Patricio Street in Goliad and the other stopped at Farm-to-Market Road 239 and U.S. Highway 59.

Eight of the suspected illegal immigrants were detained Tuesday night, while the other nine were apprehended Wednesday. One of those detained was a 6-year-old girl, who was reunited with her mother in Houston. The remaining 16 apprehended were taken by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials.
