According to the GCSO, DPS troopers tried to stop two pickup trucks around 6 p.m. Tuesday after one was suspected of committing a traffic violation.
Both pickups tried to evade the DPS troopers. One came to a stop at Ward Street and San Patricio Street in Goliad and the other stopped at Farm-to-Market Road 239 and U.S. Highway 59.
Eight of the suspected illegal immigrants were detained Tuesday night, while the other nine were apprehended Wednesday. One of those detained was a 6-year-old girl, who was reunited with her mother in Houston. The remaining 16 apprehended were taken by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials.
