On Dec. 22, individually wrapped toys and clothing were distributed to children from 105 families through the Goliad County Sheriff Office’s Silver Santa program.
Silver Santa was sponsored by Sheriff Kirby Brumby and the “Friends of Goliad” to provide some Christmas joy to children whose families are in need. The program was made possible through the donations of toys and money and the hours spent by volunteers to organize and wrap gifts.
Contributions were received from the Spirit of Goliad Republican Women’s Club, The Astron Club, AEP, Goliad Pharmacy, Jay and Stephanie Harvey, Thompson’s Water Well Service, Sonny and Mary Anne Welch, Randy and Susan Shepler, Lisa and Patrick McCullom, David and Darlene Todd, David and Dorothy Bowman, Jo Ann Orsak, Patsy Lawrence, Lois Gould, Rita Brown, Kathy and Dale Peters, Jean Young, Ann Beamsley, Alpha Hunt, and Natacha Shotts.
Others deposited money directly into the Silver Santa account at American Bank.
Toys were collected or donated by The Astron Club, Schroeder Volunteer Fire Department, Weesatche 4-H, Berclair 4-H, ASKM 4-H, Juanita Larimore, Ruth Pieper, the Goliad County Sheriff’s Office, City of Goliad, the sophomore class at Goliad High School, Mark Reyes, Benny Martinez, Arleen Brennan, Charles and Doris Pollard, and Marion and Jimmy Harper.
There were many volunteers who spent their time wrapping and organizing in the days leading up to Saturday and then distributing gifts. Among the volunteers were Pat Morales, Joyce Jones, Susan Shepler, Nelda Malone, Elaine Noland, Florence Thompson, Angelic Frausto, Dorothy Bowman, Darlene Todd, Marilyn Belknap, Bonnie Doerr, Janie Von Dohlen, Ansley Von Dohlen, Ruth Pieper, Barbara Smith, Rose Anne Preston, Earnestine Carroll, Kristen Marek, Rebecca Weems, Meredith Evans, and Benny Martinez.
Silver Santa wishes to also thank the Goliad Elementary and Intermediate schools, City Hall, and Goliad Animal Clinic for passing out and collecting the forms which were filled out by the families requesting help from Silver Santa and to the members of the Fair Association for allowing all of Silver Santa’s elves to work in the wonderful Julie Wimberley Building for the days before presents were distributed.
