The event is sponsored by the Blanco Association of Baptist Men and Women, and the new president and director of the Blanco Baptist Men, Alan Meredith, is grateful to see the tradition continue. Meredith attends First Baptist Church-Skidmore and works at South Texas Implement in Beeville. This was the second year he and his family have attended the Christmas party at STCHM.
“South Texas Children’s Home Ministries is a local mission we are proud to support,” Meredith said. “The Blanco Baptist Men look forward to sponsoring children for the Christmas party all year long. Collecting cans for kids or raising money to sponsor a child are always high priorities for us, because we care so much about the future of the children and their families.”
Meredith felt that the best thing about the Christmas party was the overwhelming sense of joy and peace felt among the many local church groups there to show their support for the children. “And it is the children that make it all so special,” he said.
Thirteen-year-old Steven has attended the Blanco Christmas party four years in a row now. He and his sister, Emerald, were sponsored by members of El Buen Pastor Baptist Church in Beeville.
“It was pretty awesome,” Steven said. “I think this was the best party I’ve been to so far, especially with all the singing.”
This was 16-year-old Jasmine’s first Blanco Christmas party experience. She and her sponsors from First Baptist Church-Beeville won a prize for being the first to successfully match Christmas phrases with the appropriate Christmas carols. Jasmine was also part of a group of girls who performed Christmas songs during the party.
“It went way better than I thought it would,” Jasmine shared. “I’m doing the stock show this year and needed some new jeans, and I got them! I was so happy. The people who sponsored me were so nice, and they actually cared to be there. I would like to tell everyone who came ‘thank you.’”
STCHM President and CEO Eron Green enjoyed watching the interaction between the students and guests.
“The Blanco Christmas Party was a tremendous blessing to our students,” Green said. “They received great gifts, but most importantly, they realized how much our community cares about them. The churches in the Blanco Association are an inspiration to all of us at South Texas Children’s Home Ministries. We are so thankful for our partnership with them all year long.”
