Two Special Education Parent Workshops will be presented by Partners Resource Network-TEAM Project on Tuesday, March 19, at the Victoria Public Library, 302 N. Main St, Victoria, in the Bronte Room.

“Section 504” will be presented from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. This workshop will provide an overview of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Participants will learn that schools have an obligation to prevent discrimination based on disability, to provide equal opportunity to all students and to provide FAPE (Free Appropriate Public Education) to each qualified student with a disability. The definition of disability will be explained and the identification process for the 504 Plan will be explored.

“Top 10 Basics of Special Education” will be presented from 10:45 a.m. to noon. This workshop will provide participants with an easy to follow roadmap of the Special Education process. Discussed will be some acronyms, their definitions and why they are used. A basic overview of the Special Education process from “identification” through “re-evaluation” will be discussed.

Following the workshops from 1 to 3 p.m. at the STARS Clinic, 117 Medical Drive, Suite 4, Individual Support Service is available for parents to discuss specific questions or concerns about their child’s special education services.
