Imagine singing hymns accompanied by a polka band. That's just the exhilarating way that the worshipers at the joint service of St. John Lutheran in Goliad and their guests St. Paul Lutheran in Runge sang at the polka worship service in Goliad. The kind people from Goliad had invited their sister congregation in Runge to the worship service in Goliad plus we all shared a delicious meal together.

Pastor Randal Bruno used the Gospel lesson from the ninth chapter of Luke verses 51-62 as the basis for his sermon. Pastor explained the history of the Israelites and the Samaritans and the events leading up to the events in the lesson. Then applying the lesson to us today, Pastor Bruno based his sermon on "Turn your faces toward Jesus". Jesus sees potential in each of us and never gives up on any of us. As Christians are being persecuted in this tumultuous world and being killed in parts of the world, we Christians must all continue to turn our faces toward Jesus who wants to redeem the world. Christians are given the great commission to reach out to others so that they too know Jesus for themselves. Jesus sees potential in everyone-even our enemies. He has not given up on this world of ours, and we must live up to our God given potential to do our part and spread the good news of Christ who came into the world to save us.

Following the sermon the congregation sang "Our Dear Lord and Savior Calls Us" to the tune of the Barbara Polka.

Our dear Lord and Savior calls and summons us today, trust me and obey, follow in my way.

Turn away from pride and envy, seek humility.

In my kingdom all are welcome, I have chosen you to be, faithful workers with devotion, partners in ministry.

Chorus: God, God of tender mercies.

Send wisdom from above,

So that we, as today's disciples

May serve in truth and love. (repeat)

Give us strength to spread your message when the road is long.

And the foe find, clouding heart and mind, when the darkness overshadows guide us with your light.

Set our thoughts on heaven'ly glory and promise, your reward, haring the eternal banquet with our caring, gracious Lord.

Chorus
