The theme of the third Sunday in Advent is joy. John the Baptist is not exactly a character to inspire one with a lot of joy. So, what is the deal? Where is the joy? In addition, this has not been a very joy filled week from a personal standpoint and from a national perspective as we continue to reel from the school shooting in Conn. last Friday.

So where is the joy for us? The joy of the season of advent, the goal of our preparation is that our God comes into the midst of our brokenness, and hurt, and showers us with his love, making us whole and clean and filling us with hope. Through our baptism into the coming obe, we are freed to live a joy-filled life, even in the midst of the world that surrounds us.
