ANDER – St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Ander has made a $7,327 gift to the Golden Crescent Affiliate of Habitat for Humanity.

The gift represents 100 percent of the funds raised through St. Peter’s Oktoberfest held on Oct. 28.

“I continue to rejoice in what the Lord does in his faithful congregation at St. Peter’s,” said Cynthia Staley, executive director of the Golden Crescent Affiliate of Habitat for Humanity. “What an encouragement to see that this church with 141 members increases their gift to Habitat every year! The people at St. Peter’s are dear to my heart.”

The St. Peter’s gift will help build the first Habitat home in Goliad.

Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit Christian ecumenical housing ministry that builds quality, low-cost homes in partnership with low-income families in the Golden Crescent area.

Volunteers build the houses, which are funded by donations from foundations, corporations, local businesses and individuals. Qualifying families purchase their homes at cost and pay the purchase price back over a 30-year period with no interest.

The monthly payments create a sustainable funding source and are recycled into building more homes for other families in need. Partner families are required to work 300 hours of “sweat equity” per adult, 100 hours of which must be expended on their own house.

St. Peter’s is located in 1545 E. FM 1961 in the Ander Community. Worship is at 9 a.m. each Sunday. For more information about the ministries of the congregation, call 645-2922 or visit www.stpetersander.org.
