The Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America unit at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Ander has received a $300 grant from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.

The grant, provided by the Greater Victoria Chapter of Thrivent through its Care Abounds in Communities chapter care program, allowed the group to purchase 180 yards of quilt batting. This batting serves as the middle layer in the quilts sewn for Lutheran World Relief and will enable St. Peter’s to create approximately 78 quilts for LWR.

Lutheran World Relief, an international nonprofit organization, works to end poverty and injustice by empowering some of the world’s most impoverished communities to help themselves.

With partners in 35 countries, LWR seeks to promote sustainable development with justice and dignity by helping communities bring about change for healthy, safe and secure lives; engage in Fair Trade; promote peace and reconciliation; and respond to emergencies. LWR is headquartered in Baltimore, Md. and has worked in international development and relief since 1945.

Through its Care Abounds in Communities chapter care program, Thrivent provides funding for members participating in community service teams.

These teams are formed to conduct fund-raising activities and/or hands-on service activities. Activities can benefit individuals, families, local communities or organizations that are exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, excluding congregations.

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is a not-for-profit Fortune 500 financial services membership organization helping 2.5 million members achieve their financial goals and give back to their communities.

As a not-for-profit organization, Thrivent Financial sponsors national outreach programs and activities that support congregations, schools, charitable organizations and individuals in need.
