Tiffany Vargas and Samantha Salazar each had eight points for the Beeville girls. Amber Garcia made four points, and Deziree Mendez netted two as did Mindy Maldonado.
“The first half was filled with too many turnovers, which led to fast break points for G-P. I am proud of the team’s effort to outplay G-P the second half,” said freshman coach Abel Barrera.
“It’s always a tough game when you turn over the ball and allow your opponent to make easy baskets.”
In the JV clash, the G-P girls raced out to an 18-6 lead after the first quarter. The visitors scored the first 16 points of the game before the hosts scored.
The Lady Trojans got back into the swing of things with a good second quarter, outscoring the Ladycats 12-9 to trail 27-18 at the half.
