The Trojan and Lady Trojan wrestlers all did a great job on Saturday at the District 15-4A meet in Victoria, according to the coaches. The boys captured the team title, and all 11 members will advance to the Region IV meet this weekend, and six girls qualified for the region meet after finishing third as a team.
“All the hard work and effort these young athletes did to prepare for this tournament paid off. I was very nice to bring the district title back to Beeville,” said wrestling head coach Terry Foster.
The Trojans walked away as district champions and will be taking all 11 wrestlers to the Region IV tournament in Austin this weekend.
The Lady Trojan varsity girls captured third in the district race but had six wrestlers qualify for the region meet.
Victoria West earned the district title on the girls’ side with San Antonio Brooks Academy in second.
By placements, the Trojan results included:
Boys division
At 113 pounds - Rogelio Salazar - first place.
At 120 pounds - Mario Perez - second place.
At 126 pounds - Tristian Longoria - first place.
At 138 pounds - Seth Aguirre - third place.
At 145 pounds - Cordell Aguirre - first place.
At 152 pounds - Nathaniel Barris - second place.
At 160 pounds - Jeremy Ramirez - first place.
At 170 pounds - Dustin Chaney - second place.
At 182 pounds - Ernesto Gomez - second place.
At 195 pounds - Brent Puga - first place.
At 220 pounds - Elijah Green - second place.
Girls division
At 102 pounds - Danielle Perez - second place.
At 110 pounds - Mandy Maldonado - third place.
At 119 pounds - Briana Gobel - third place.
At 128 pounds - Amanda Puga - third place.
At 138 pounds - Heidi Rodriguez - first place.
At 148 pounds - Christina Alcorta did not place.
In all, the Trojans have six District 15-4A champions, five boys and one girl, to lead them into the Region IV tournament.
“I am excited for these wrestlers on their accomplishments and achievements,” said Foster. “The opportunity to participate at the next level (Region IV) and to advance to state will be a welcome challenge and I am sure they will be prepared and look forward to it.”
