(Kenedy, TX) - The 2013 Direct and Counter-cyclical Program (DCP) and the Average Crop Revenue Election (ACRE) Program sign-up is underway. ACRE signup ends June 3 while DCP sign-up continues through August 2.

Producers are encouraged to make an appointment now to sign-up for the annual program.

Eligible DCP participants receive a direct payment and/or a counter-cyclical payment. Direct payment rates are established by statute regardless of market prices. Counter-cyclical payments vary depending on market prices, and are issued only when the effective price for a commodity is below its target price.

The ACRE program protects producers from farm market revenue declines when revenue triggers are met for a commodity at both the state and farm level.

Eligible payment acres are dependent upon the commodity base acres and yields as established for the farm. Eligible acres must be maintained to control weeds and control erosion. Fruits and vegetables cannot be planted on applicable contract acres.

Both DCP and ACRE participants must sign annual contracts to be eligible for program benefits. All signatures of producers sharing in the risk and production of crops grown for applicable DCP or ACRE payments must be on file by the applicable enrollment deadline.
