The Badger Basketball team tried to rally late in the fourth quarter, but time ran out and they fell to Nixon-Smiley in their district opener, 43-39, Tuesday, Dec. 18.
Senior guard Philip Vaughan led the Badgers with 16 points, and Devontrey Forth had 9.
The Badgers were behind 19-28 at half but closed the gap during the second half.
On the Junior Varsity end, the Badgers won 33-25 and continued a winning streak.
The JV Badgers also took first at the Karnes City Tourney Dec. 15. Junior Earl Morin earned the All-Tourney honor, while sophomore Kolton Witte was named MVP.
The boys edged out Jourdanton for the championship, 41-38, led by sophomore Randy Flores’ 13 points. KC also defeated Navarro 48-29, with Morin leading the way with 17 points.
On Dec. 11, the JV Badgers got a narrow win against George West’s JV 34-31.
