WHS students earn medals

BRENHAM — Nick Salyers, Matt Steele, Dan Han and Josh Martinez will represent Woodsboro High School at the UIL State meet in Austin on May 20 and 21.

The WHS one-act-play cast and UIL competitors brought back an array of medals at the regional meet on April 20-21 at Blinn College in Brenham.

Students got an early start with Number Sense at 7:30 a.m. Nick Salyers placed first in Number Sense and the team consisting of Nick, Dan Han, Lauren Cramer and Michelle Martinez placed second.

A few hours later Accounting and Spelling got underway and the students did well once again. In Accounting, Matt Steele placed fifth and the team of Matt, Toni Bouck, Cheyenne McGovern and Lauren Cramer placed second.

Nick Salyers placed second in spelling and the team of Nick, Azalea Garcia, Alex Garcia and Jared Martinez placed second.

In the afternoon, it was time for Mathematics and Woodsboro was ready. Nick Salyers placed first, Dan Han placed third and the team of Nick, Dan, Matt Steele and Josh Martinez placed first.

The last contest of the day was Computer Science and Nick Slayers placed fifth. It was a long day, but Woodsboro garnered 101 points for 5th place overall out of 38 schools competing.

The next day dawned bright and early with One Act Play beginning at 8 a.m.

“The students put on an excellent performance and were rewarded with two members receiving honors,” said Nelda Blaschke, sponsor.

Kasie Fierova was named to the All Star Cast and Toni Bouck was named to the Honorable Mention All-Star Cast.

“These students work hard for many months and WHS is very proud of all they have accomplished and will continue to accomplish at the State Meet in Austn on May 20 and 21,” Blaschke said.
