According to Sgt. Chris Bernal, Susana Cruz was walking in the crosswalk on the grocery side of the business at about 5:08 p.m. when she was struck by a Dodge Ram driven by 44-year-old Jennifer Vela.
Both women were from Beeville.
Bernal said Vela did not receive a citation. He said the victim was walking behind another vehicle at the time and the driver of the vehicle was blinded by the setting sun.
Cruz was later flown to a Corpus Christi hospital by a HALO-Flight helicopter for treatment.
Bernal did not know anything about the victim’s condition when asked Thursday afternoon.
